How to solve 'emSigner failure' while using DSC?

Whether you are a tax consultant, small business owner filing your GST returns, filing your GST Returns using DSC is a tedious process. Many issues may occur while using DSC to sign the GSTR-3B, GSTR-1, GSTR-4 and other returns @ gst.gov.in portal. It's primarily related to connecting DSC with the GST Portal using emSigner on Chrome Browser.

This article covers an easy solution to emsigner connectivity issues.

How to setup emSigner to use with your DSC in Chrome Browser


  1. Download the Latest emSigner (v 2.6) from https://www.gst.gov.in/help/docsigner for your OS.
  2. Once installed, create a shortcut as GST-emSigner .. as MCA and ITD may have similar emSigners.

  3. Run emSigner (GST) as Administrator (right click to see the Option).
  4. Open the Chrome Browser as Administrator

  5. Type the address https://127.0.0.1:1585 in the Chrome address bar & hit enter.

  6. You may see some errors and also a button [ BACK TO SAFETY ] .. Do not click this button .. instead click on [ ADVANCED ] and click [ Proceed Anyway ] to 127.0.0.1 (unsafe) button / Link.

  7. Once done, the browser keeps running or may give you an error in the screen. Which is Ok and ignore.
  8. Now, go to gst.gov.in in a different Chrome tab start using after inserting the DSC into a USB Drive.

How to Register / Update DSC on GST Portal?


  1. Login to gst.gov.in Portal
  2. Click on top-right side menu like the below picture and click on Register / Update DSC.
  3. Once it opens a dialog to select DSC and enter DSC password, the portal will register the DSC with your login.
Note: You must Setup emSigner before using above process on Chrome Browser.
