Mandatory Bank account before filing GSTR-1 / IFF

The GST Department has announced that effective September 1, 2024, it will require valid bank account details for GSTR-1 and IFF Payments.

  1. Rule 10A of the Central Goods and Services Tax Rules, 2017 notified vide notification no. 31/2019 dated 28.06.2019 requires a taxpayer to provide details of a valid Bank Account within 30 days of registration or before furnishing outward supply details in FORM GSTR-1 or using Invoice Furnishing Facility (IFF), whichever is earlier.
  2. Periodic advisory and other messages have informed taxpayers about providing valid bank account details in GST Registration.
  3. Starting September 1, 2024, this rule applies. Thus, starting in August 2024, taxpayers must provide a valid bank account in their GST Portal registration data to file GSTR-01/IFF.
  4. All taxpayers who have not yet provided their bank account information should visit Services > Registration > Amendment of Registration Non-Core Fields on GST Portal to do so.
  5. Without correct bank account details in GST registration, you cannot file GSTR-1 or IFF from August-2024.
