IEC is mandatory for importers and exporters. The DGFT portal requires careful form completion and proper document submission. EZTax experts navigate the portal, ensure compliance, and deliver your IEC code so you can begin import-export operations immediately with confidence.
What is IEC and who needs it?
IEC (Import Export Code) is a unique 10-digit code issued by DGFT (Directorate General of Foreign Trade) to businesses. It is mandatory for any person or entity importing or exporting goods from or into India.
What is the validity of an IEC code?
Once allotted, an IEC code is valid for the lifetime of the business. No renewal is required. You can continue using it indefinitely unless you voluntarily surrender it.
How long does IEC registration take?
The process generally takes 3-7 working days depending on whether it is month-end (higher volume). Application setup and initial call take 2 days, followed by DGFT government processing.
Is IEC filing different from GST registration?
Yes, IEC is mandatory for import-export activities and issued by DGFT. GST registration is a separate tax registration. Importers/exporters typically require both.
Can I apply for IEC if I have no prior business experience?
Yes. Eligibility requires a valid PAN and proof of address. Previous business experience is not a requirement. Our experts verify your eligibility during the consultation call.
What if I want to surrender my IEC code?
You can surrender IEC by informing the issuing authority. They will immediately cancel it and inform customs and DGFT electronically. We can guide you through this process if needed.
