How to Give Feedback on AIS Information

This page explains how to submit feedback on eligible AIS information, what happens after submission, and what records to retain.

Quick Answer

If an AIS entry is incorrect or needs clarification, review the underlying transaction first and then use the feedback facility available within AIS for eligible information. Keep supporting documents and do not omit taxable income merely because an AIS entry is disputed.

Can I Give Feedback on AIS?

Yes. The Income Tax Department provides a facility for taxpayers to submit feedback on active information displayed under applicable AIS sections such as TDS/TCS, SFT and Other Information.

When Should I Give AIS Feedback?

Consider feedback when, after checking your records, you identify information that is incorrect, duplicated, not related to you, or otherwise requires the feedback options available for that AIS item. Review the underlying documents before submitting feedback.

How Do I Submit Feedback?

The current AIS FAQ describes a process in which the taxpayer selects the relevant information, uses the feedback option, chooses the applicable feedback response, enters required details and submits the feedback.

What Happens After I Submit Feedback?

The Income Tax Department states that after successful submission, feedback is displayed with the information, the modified value is visible with the reported value, activity history is updated and an acknowledgement receipt can be downloaded. Email and SMS confirmations are also stated to be sent.

Should I Keep Supporting Documents?

Yes. Keep the records that support your feedback, such as statements, certificates, transaction records or other relevant evidence. Feedback does not remove the taxpayer's responsibility to file a complete and accurate return.

Does AIS Feedback Replace ITR Reporting?

No. AIS feedback and ITR reporting are separate activities. The taxpayer still needs to prepare the ITR using complete and accurate information from all relevant sources.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I submit feedback on every AIS item?

The Income Tax Department states that feedback can be submitted on active information displayed under applicable TDS/TCS, SFT or Other Information sections. Availability depends on the item.

Can I download proof of AIS feedback?

The Income Tax Department states that an acknowledgement receipt can be downloaded after successful submission of feedback.

Should I wait for AIS feedback to be resolved before filing?

Do not omit required income simply because an AIS item is under feedback. Prepare the ITR using complete and accurate information and retain supporting records.
